Your data, clearly explained

Privacy Policy

Family Drive Alerts is designed to provide useful car alerts without turning family travel into a surveillance product. This policy explains what we collect, why we need it, how we protect it, and the choices you have.

Effective: July 14, 2026 · Last updated: July 14, 2026

Location is encrypted

Exact vehicle locations, navigation destinations, and saved Places are encrypted at rest.

No ads or data sales

We do not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising or cross-app tracking.

No vehicle controls

We do not request Tesla vehicle-command permission or provide remote car-control features.

1. Scope and who we are

Ford Family Ventures ("Ford Family Ventures," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Family Drive Alerts iPhone app, familydrivealerts.com, and the related alert, account, subscription, and support services (collectively, the "Service"). This policy applies to information processed through the Service.

Family Drive Alerts is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Tesla, Inc.

2. Data we collect

We collect only the information needed to operate, secure, support, and bill for the Service.

Category Examples How we receive it
Account and Garage Email address, Garage name, account role, family membership, invite email and status, and optional profile or support details you provide. Directly from you or another Garage member who invites you.
Tesla account connection Authorization status, granted scopes, encrypted access and refresh tokens, and connection health. From Tesla after you authorize the connection. We do not receive your Tesla password.
Vehicle and drive data Vehicle identifier, vehicle name, masked or hashed VIN, battery and charging state, connectivity, motion and parking state, trip timing, and related telemetry. From Tesla Fleet API and Fleet Telemetry for cars you choose to enroll.
Precise location and navigation Vehicle coordinates, parked location, saved Places and radius, destination, route progress, distance, and ETA when Tesla navigation supplies them. From Tesla, or from your iPhone when you choose to use its current location while creating a Place.
Notifications and app devices Encrypted Apple push tokens, Live Activity tokens, installation identifier, device platform, notification status, and delivery or failure records. From the app and Apple Push Notification service.
Subscription App Store product, transaction and original transaction identifiers, subscription status, renewal or expiration date, and Garage billing identifier. From Apple and the App Store receipt presented by the app. We do not receive your payment-card details.
Authentication and security Email verification status, short-lived sign-in challenges, session records, passkey public credentials, hashed identifiers, request metadata, and security audit events. From your sign-in activity, device, and network requests.
Website and support Waitlist email, page or campaign source, support messages, troubleshooting details, and privacy requests. Directly from you and through ordinary hosting and security logs.

What we do not collect from Tesla

We do not request Tesla's profile-information scope or vehicle-command scope. We do not receive your Tesla password, Tesla profile address, or payment card details, and Family Drive Alerts does not unlock, remote-start, steer, or otherwise control your car.

3. How we protect location and saved Places

Vehicle location is sensitive. We process it to decide whether an enrolled car left or arrived at a saved Place, to describe where a car is parked, and to provide navigation updates when available. We do not use vehicle or phone location for advertising, data brokerage, credit, insurance, employment, or profiling decisions.

  • Encrypted at rest: exact Tesla locations, navigation destinations, saved Place details, and location-bearing alert content are stored using AES-256-GCM encryption with Garage-bound authentication.
  • Separated keys: location encryption keys are kept in restricted production secrets, separate from the database records they protect.
  • Automated processing: the production service can decrypt location information in memory only as needed to generate status, Place matches, alerts, and Live Activities.
  • No ordinary human access: our support dashboard, routine database views, and standard exports do not reveal exact coordinates or saved Place details. Authorized support personnel see limited account and operational health information instead.
  • Phone location is optional: if you choose "Use Current Location" while adding a Place, the app requests iOS When In Use access for that action. We do not continuously follow your phone.

No security method is perfect, but this design means possession of a database copy by itself does not reveal readable customer locations or saved Places.

4. How we use data

We use the information described above to:

  • create and authenticate accounts and shared Garages;
  • connect enrolled cars and maintain Tesla authorization;
  • detect departures, navigation changes, arrivals, parking, and charging states;
  • send notifications and update or end Live Activities;
  • manage subscriptions, trials, restores, and enrolled-car limits;
  • operate Places, family invitations, and member access controls;
  • protect accounts, prevent abuse, investigate failures, and maintain audit records;
  • provide support and troubleshoot a Garage without exposing precise location through support tools;
  • measure aggregate service health, reliability, and operating costs; and
  • comply with law and enforce our agreements.

We do not use personal data for targeted advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles from Tesla, vehicle, location, or app-usage data.

5. How we disclose data

We do not sell personal data. We also do not share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We disclose limited information only as needed in these circumstances:

  • Within your Garage: Garage owners and members can see enrolled-car status, Places, drive activity, alerts, and membership information according to their role.
  • Service providers: Cloudflare provides web, Worker, database, key-value, and security infrastructure; DigitalOcean hosts the Tesla Fleet Telemetry receiver; Postmark sends transactional email; Apple provides App Store billing, push notifications, Live Activities delivery, and Apple Maps features used by the app; and Google provides web-font files used by the marketing website.
  • Tesla: Tesla authenticates your authorization and supplies vehicle and location information under the permissions you approve.
  • Sign-in providers: if an optional Apple, Google, or Microsoft sign-in method is offered and you choose it, that provider processes the sign-in request under its own privacy terms.
  • Legal and safety: we may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect users or the public, or investigate fraud and security incidents.
  • Business change: information may transfer as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to this policy and applicable law.

We require service providers that process personal data for us to protect it and use it only to provide their contracted services or as otherwise permitted by law. External websites reached through links in the app or website have their own privacy practices.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above:

  • Raw Fleet Telemetry operational records: up to 24 hours.
  • Encrypted location detail attached to alert events: up to 30 days; non-location event timing and delivery status may remain longer for reliability history.
  • Alert pipeline metrics: up to 14 days.
  • Security audit records: up to 365 days.
  • Short-lived security records: replay nonces and sign-in challenges expire based on their security window and are removed after they are no longer needed.
  • Account, Garage, vehicle, Place, and subscription-link data: while your account or Garage remains active, or until you remove it.
  • Waitlist and support information: until it is no longer needed for the request, you ask us to delete it, or applicable law requires otherwise.

Permanent account deletion removes the customer profile, identities, sessions, passkeys, Tesla credentials, device registrations, family memberships, and any Garage owned by that customer, including vehicles, Places, invites, rules, alerts, telemetry, and billing links. Active Live Activities are ended before registrations are revoked when technically possible.

We may retain financial transaction records required for accounting, fraud prevention, tax, or legal obligations and security audit records for the period described above. Retained records are disconnected from or redacted of the customer profile where feasible. Deleting a Family Drive Alerts account does not automatically cancel an App Store subscription; subscriptions are managed through Apple.

7. Your choices and privacy rights

You can control much of your information directly:

  • disconnect Tesla access from the app and, where available, from your Tesla account;
  • choose which cars are enrolled, remove saved Places, and revoke Garage members;
  • change notification and location permission in iOS Settings;
  • manage or cancel billing through your Apple subscription settings; and
  • initiate permanent account deletion from the app's Settings screen.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to know or access personal data, correct inaccurate data, delete data, obtain a portable copy, appeal a decision about a privacy request, and opt out of certain sales, targeted advertising, or qualifying profiling. We do not sell personal data, use it for targeted advertising, or use it for qualifying decisions about credit, housing, insurance, employment, education, or access to essential services.

To exercise a privacy right, email support@familydrivealerts.com from the address associated with your account. We may verify your identity before completing a request. You may use an authorized agent where applicable. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right and will respond within applicable legal deadlines. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line.

In the preceding 12 months, we have not sold personal information or shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed for the sensitivity of vehicle and location information. These include encrypted network transport, encryption of Tesla credentials, precise location, saved Places, and push tokens at rest, hashed identifiers where plaintext is unnecessary, least-privilege service access, short-lived sessions and challenges, audit logging, retention limits, and restricted admin access.

No service can guarantee absolute security. Please protect your email and Apple/Tesla accounts, use device security features, and contact us promptly if you believe your Family Drive Alerts account has been compromised.

9. Children

The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly allow a child under 13 to create an account or knowingly collect personal data directly from a child under 13. A Garage owner may use the Service for a family vehicle that is driven by a teen, but the account owner is responsible for using the Service openly, obtaining any consent required by law, and managing family access. Contact us if you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data directly to us.

10. U.S. processing

Family Drive Alerts is operated from the United States. Our providers may process data in the United States and other locations where they operate. Those locations may have privacy laws different from those where you live. We use service-provider agreements and other safeguards appropriate to the processing.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service, providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the updated policy here and revise the "Last updated" date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice in the app, by email, or through another appropriate channel before the change takes effect when required.
